In this project the objective was to view the Visual translation of Value into Color & exploration of Color Harmonies through many steps of this project. The end result was…..
To explore volume using color harmonies, color saturation, value range and temperature & to exploration of collage skills, development and technique through color selection and arrangement. In this project we used a tight shot color selfie of yourself & using found materials such as magazines, color papers, wrapping papers, etc.. cut small pieces of paper matching the selfie’s hues, values, intensities and temperatures aiming to create Shaped Color Value Gradation and depth. As were going through the process we were asked to record every step of your process with photographs and in writing and post it to Blackboard website. This project was to be done on an 8″x8″ bristol board. The result is this……
*I can honestly say that this was the hardest project of them all.
In this project, we were assigned to a select group consisting of 3-4 students with a subject matter of a specific topic to research. My group consisted of Gaby, Josue (Mojo), Yuko and myself of course!!! The subject matter was Emphasis & Focal Point which all four of us collaborated to collectively decide on the specific areas of how emphasis and focal points in art can be displayed.
Part 1 of the project was to research this subject individually to understand what are the componants that contribute to focal points & emphasis. There is the concept of: Isolation– to isolate an image to allow it to stand out; Placement or Convergence– this is usually used as linar placement which consists of lines to draw the eye to a specific image; Being Unusual/Outstanding out– this is just an usual image surrounded by the normal or it sort of fits in but looks different; Contrast– refers to the arrangement of opposite elements (light vs. dark colors, rough vs. smooth textures, large vs. small; & Placement– location or arrangement of images within a piece of art or image. During my research I came across this image form the “Dante’s Inferno” which clearly shows the focal point in the center front of the image by the two men having a light shade of color than the rest of the images in the painting.
Part 2 of the assignment was to exchange your research findings with your group. Then try to answer questions such as: What is the goal of the principle? It is defined as a central point of attention or interest made to draw the eye.
Part 3 of the assignment consisted of creating our own original artwork. I chose to express the Unusual and Placement aspects within my art work.
Part 4 is the last part of this project is The Presentation….. Collectively, my group added their research and their individual artwork to the presentation and prepared it to show to the class. Here is the link to the presentation: https://www.dropbox.com/s/7xio7nbt7czpni7/Emphasis.pptx?dl=0
To develop visual understanding of the differences between subject matter and form. Intentionally transform a representational design into an abstract or non-representational design. In this project the shapes should be interesting, space should be interesting, & the shape/space relationship should be interesting. To develop this assignment, complete texture exercise to practice texture making. On the first field of a set of six 3” x 3” thumbnails reproduce the large design you created for Assignment 4: Value. Then develop and adjust the shapes using only textures. Then develop and adjust the shapes & space design using only values (no texture). Next I experimented pen & ink – choice of crow quill pen, permanent India ink, a very fine, permanent black marker, or a very fine technical pen. From the six thumbnails, I chose one image to reproduce for a collage in which, the final design was one final design completed on One final design in pen on white paper with 6” x 6” field neatly drawn borders. The result is this……
